Two New Gelato Shops in Auckland: Little 'Lato is Coming to Orewa and Milford
Big news, gelato lovers — we're opening two new Little 'Lato parlours this October, and both of them are on the north side of Auckland.
Little 'Lato Orewa opens Saturday 3 October at 8b Moana Avenue, Orewa, a few steps from the beach.
Little 'Lato Milford opens Saturday 10 October at 120 Kitchener Road, Milford, right in the heart of the village.
That means two more places across Auckland to get your hands on award-winning, small batch, Italian style gelato — just in time for summer.
Little 'Lato Orewa — 8b Moana Avenue, Orewa
Orewa has one of the best beach strips in Auckland, and frankly it's been missing a proper gelateria. Moana Avenue puts us within easy walking distance of the beach reserve, the estuary walkway and the Hibiscus Coast shops, so whether you're coming off the sand, off the coastal path, or just off a long Saturday of errands, there's a scoop waiting.
Expect the full Little 'Lato experience: a rotating cabinet of gelato, sorbet and dairy free flavours, all made in small batches using real ingredients, and all churned the traditional Italian way.
Opening day: Saturday 3 October. Come say ciao.
Little 'Lato Milford — 120 Kitchener Road, Milford
A week later we're opening on Kitchener Road in Milford, a two-minute stroll from Milford Beach and right amongst the village's cafés, shops and the mall. It's the kind of neighbourhood that was made for an after-dinner gelato walk, and we're very happy to be part of it.
Milford will scoop the same cabinet of classics and curiosities as our other parlours — pistachio and salted butterscotch for the purists, and something slightly unhinged for the adventurous (we've developed over 550 flavours, so there's always something new).
Opening day: Saturday 10 October.
What makes Little 'Lato gelato different
We're a small New Zealand gelato company with a slightly obsessive approach to the craft. Our founder trained at the Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, and every recipe since has been developed from scratch and made by hand, in small batches, using real ingredients — no shortcuts, no powders, no flavour syrups.
It's an approach that's earned us more than 120 awards, including being named Supreme Champion at the New Zealand Ice Cream & Gelato Awards twice: first in 2022 (the first gelato ever to take the top prize) and again in 2024 with a dairy free flavour — another New Zealand first.
That last one matters to us. Dairy free gelato in NZ has a reputation for being an afterthought, and we've spent years proving it doesn't have to be. Around a third of our cabinet is vegan at any given time, and our dairy free flavours win gold medals against dairy ones. You can browse our full range of flavours and award winners here.
Little 'Lato tokens work at Orewa and Milford too
If you've got Little 'Lato tokens tucked in a wallet, a stocking or a birthday card, good news — they're welcome at our new Orewa and Milford stores from day one, just like they are at Ponsonby and Hamilton.
Not sure how they work? We've explained the whole thing in our guide to Little 'Lato tokens — what they are, where to buy them, and how to use them. They also make a very easy gift for the person who has everything except gelato.
If you want to purchase tokens for your team (a great Christmas gift!) then email us for more information.
Where else can you find Little 'Lato?
Orewa and Milford join a growing list of spots across the country. You'll find our flagship parlours in Ponsonby (119 Ponsonby Road) and Hamilton East (401 Grey Street, inside MADE), our summer store in Waipu, and partner locations scooping Little 'Lato in Rotorua, Taupō, Timaru, Hahei Beach, Cooks Beach, Waihi Beach and Pt Chevalier.
